Matthew Williamson is a British fashion designer specialising in beautful and luxurious dresses and tops. He was born in Chorlton, Manchester, in 1971 and graduated from Central St Martins College in London in June 1994 with a BA in fashion design and Printed Textiles. After stints working for Marni and Monsoon, he founded his own company, Matthew Williamson Ltd, in 1997 with his business partner, Joseph Velosa.
Matthew's first fashion show was in September 1997, but it wasn't until 2002 that he did his first show at New York fashion week.
Matthew Williamson was awarded the Elle Designer of the Year Award in 2004 and the Moet and Chandon Fashion Award in 2005. Although nominated three times as British Designer of the Year, he has yet to win the award (perhaps this season, Matthew!).
Matthew Williamson was also the creative director at Emilio Pucci, one of the many designer labels owned by LMVH (they own the Louis Vuitton and Moet et Chandon brands, amongst others), from 2005 to 2008, but now he concentrates full time on his own company.
Celebrities who have been seen wearing Matthew Williamson dresses include Sienna Miller, Mischa Barton and Thandie Newton. Sienna Miller, pictured left, can be seen wearing a cute Matthew Williamson lime green dress. The guy in the photo is, in fact, Matthew Williamson himself. They look quite friendly in the photo. I wonder if she got a discount on the dress?
Matches Fashion have a great range of Matthew Williamson dresses, one of which is exclusive to Matches cardigans and neck scarves. There are also a small number of Matthew Williamson items of clothing in the sale.
