Herve Leger bandage dresses were (or more correctly, Hervé Léger bandage dresses) were originally made by a French fashion designer of the same name who exploited the stretchy qualities of spandex (brand name Lycra) to create dresses out of strips of elastic material, sewn horizontally like bandages, to create incredibly sexy and figure hugging dresses that cling to the female form whilst allowing ample movement. The styles are flattering because the fabric used tends to smooth out any imperfections in the figure. The appearance of the dresses remains classy as the lines are simple and clean in subtle toned colours. Unnecessary and distracting embellishments are avoided.
In 1998, the US company BCBG Max Azria bought a controlling interest in the Herve Leger company, which was at that time a subsidiary of G.H. Mumm and Compagnie. However, the new American company imposed strict budgetary control on Herve Leger and within 6 months of the take over, Herve Leger was fired. So the current Herve Leger designs are not, in fact, designed by the man himself.
Nevertheless, the concepts innovated by Herve Leger remain in the Herve Leger by Max Azria collections. The iconic "bandage dress" is still in the forefront, typically constructed from a mixture of rayon, nylon and spandex, and many "A" listers, including Keira Knightley, Kate Winslet, Beyonce, Rachel Bison, Victoria Beckham and Kate Bosworth, are seen wearing the brand. Max Azria was presented with the 2008 Fashion Excellence Award at the 33rd annual Dallas Fashion Awards for the successful relaunch of the Herve Leger label.
The brand has numerous boutiques in the US, including New York and Beverley Hills. There is also a Herve Leger by Max Azria boutique in Paris. Sadly, there is not currently at Herve Leger by Max Azria boutique in the UK, although the designs are on sale in Harrods and Selfridges.
Harrods have a great collection of Herve Leger dresses online, including styles such as the gold chain embellished Heidi dress, the silhouette sculpting, central zip fastening Kendra Bandage dress and lots more achingly sexy designs in silver, black, red, grey, pink, blue and purple.
Harrods is based in the UK, but offers worldwide delivery.
Selfridges also stock Herve Leger dresses online, including designs in nude, cream, red, black and also some striped designs.
Selfridges offers UK shipping only.
Je pense que les robes d'Herve Leger sont moin chers en angleterre qu'en France à ce moment, c'est vrai?
